My latest post is available at the Milspouse blog: The Afternoon Nap « Military Spouse Blog.

We’ve made some schedule adjustments (slightly later morning nap, slightly later afternoon nap), and things seem to have stabilized, for now. Let’s just hope they stay that way.

He’s within the zone where he will start to lose one, but you really have to force him to lose the morning nap instead of the afternoon nap. If I’d let him, Theo would’ve kept the morning nap (and be MISERABLE every afternoon — this still happens if we’re in the car during the late morning; he will invariably fall asleep and not nap in the PM). Also expect that it won’t be an instant thing — he will go back and forth between one nap and two for a while, in theo’s case a few weeks.

Going later with the morning nap is probably the right move. Eventually we moved Theo’s late enough that it became the only nap. Now he’s going to bed between 12:30 and 1 and sleeping 2-4 hours in the afternoon, depending on how well he’s been sleeping, how much activity he’s getting, etc. His nap is generally on the shorter side, but he tends to sleep longer overnight than most kids his age.

Insert standard disclaimer about every kid being different, free unsolicited advice being worth what you’re paying me for it, etc…
