A lot has happened in the last 10 days since my last post. I won’t go into all of it, but I think a recap is in order.
First of all, I want to say that Hulu.com is an instrument of the devil. Even though we don’t subscribe to cable or have an antenna for our TV, we now find ourselves watching The Daily Show every morning during Sean’s first nap and our second cup of coffee. Most evenings, we fall prey to either Fringe, Life, or The Mentalist (which we have to surf all the way over to CBS.com for since neither CBS nor ABC have joined forces with NBC and FOX on Hulu). And if those shows aren’t available, you can pretty much guarantee you’ll find something else to watch: Hell’s Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, Carrier…
Now, to stay on the theme of ‘The Internet and Its Dangers,’ I have quick story about our Amazon.com obsession. Last Monday, we received five orders from Amazon. Three separate carriers.
Shipment 1 Tom’s of Maine toothpaste via FedEx.
Shipment 2 A winter hat and some moisturizer for Sean via the US Postal Service, in separate packages.
Shipment 3 Some blocks for Sean so Danielle and I can build towers which Captain Destructo will destroy. Also a ‘symphonic stacker’. And a case of diapers. All from UPS in separate boxes.
Much of the blame for this can be placed squarely on Amazon.com for the amazing Amazon Prime service ($79 a year for unlimited 2-day shipping!) and their Subscribe and Save service, which allows us to get great deals on the stuff we buy on a regular basis. The rest of the blame can be placed on us for being picky and lazy consumers. OK, this is starting to sound like a commercial for Amazon when my point was actually that it’s absurd to get that many products from one retailer in one day.
In closing, the Internet is a dangerous black hole that eats time and money. And I love it.
