I used to do it when my wife was deployed with her ship. I couldn't stand sitting at home all the time. I also found that I could actually focus better out in public: no TV, phone calls, and no Internet. TV and the Internet are poison for writers. They are time vacuums. Funny. Man, I write in Barnes & Noble and Starbucks not because I'm trying to impress anyone, but just because I want to get out of the house. I also want a cafe mocha and a bagel, and the parade of cute girls wandering through is a welcomed distraction. And finally I can get my magazine fix when I take a break. “Ok, will you watch me?”
