I’ve just finished watching a film about, and then reading a New Yorker article by Calvin Trillen about Shopsin’s General Store.
To get the feeling of the place, read the New Yorker piece. The restaurant has apparently moved a second time to the Essex St. Market, and all I can say is I wish I could have experienced it in its original glory.
I don’t know whether to post this in The Decline of Western Culture or Widely Spaced Beacons of Hope. How ’bout both?
Post script: I’m also introducing a new element to the blog. I’m going to start linking to well-written articles and blog posts I find in my daily perusings, because so much of the writing we encounter online is just, well, bad.
