One of the more frustrating aspects of rejection is having to start all over again. Once again I’m straining to seduce agents and agents’ assistants.
I’m sending out another six queries. Two of them are e-queries (more on that in a minute), and the rest are snail mail. I have a few more agencies I’m thinking about querying, but I like to keep the number of queries I have out in the world to around six. That way I can make adjustments between batches.
Now, about those e-queries: I like e-mail–sending it, receiving it, whatever–but I don’t like e-mailing queries. I try to do it only when it’s the only option for an agent. I find that agents’ response times are either remarkably quick or incredibly slow. I haven’t heard anything from two agents I queried nearly three months ago.
UPDATE: Sara Crowe, however, exceeded all my expectations by responding to my e-query (negatively) in just over four hours. I think that’s a new record.
