Coincidence

October 2nd, 2006 · 2 Comments

I just found out that the house I live in is the same house one of my coworkers grew up in.

The television in the breakroom was showing a commercial for a basement-finishing contractor. I commented they would have a hard time with my basement as it had a boulder in it about the size of a mini-fridge.

Hearing this, my coworker said, ‘Wait, where do you live?’ I said, ‘P________ St.’ He said, ‘34?’ Yes, 34. ‘My father built that house,’ he said.

Of course, this being historic Newport, what he means is his father renovated the house, which was originally built ca. 1820, according to the Newport Historical Society (or whoever it was who put that sign on the house).

I can’t wait to hear some of the stories about the place.

Welcome home, Tom! How was your trip? I can’t believe the coincidence about your cottage and its basement boulder!!! So crazy. I’ve decided that the theory of ’six degrees of separation” applies to most people I meet these days. Granted, I am in a current or ex-military beehive, but it seems to extend beyond that. Craziness! I’ll give you guys a call soon to hear all about your trip! I leave for Dublin in 2 weeks!!!
I’m glad that one of the editors actually took the time to write you a personalized note. You’re lucky your mail carrier didn’t stow it away for 3 months before handing it over to you. Thank God for giant, evergreen-colored mail boxes! Enjoy your paid web research. I know the feeling. Hopefully another 6 months and I’ll know which country in Europe I’ll call home. In the meantime…good luck with the agents. Talk to you both soon! xx MB
