Well, since it was Thursday when I sent my submissions out, they should be arriving in New York sometime in the next couple days.
And that’s got me thinking about the dreaded slush pile. Just what is a slush pile? I’ve read a description of one system over at Miss Snark’s blog which can be found here.
And when I Googled for a definition of the slush pile, these were the results. My favorite is the Straight Talk Express version over at Wikipedia:
In publishing, the slush pile is the unending pile of unsolicited manuscripts either sent directly to the publisher by optimistic authors, or sent through an agent not known to the publisher. Most are of poor quality and are rejected.
Well, at least I know my submission is not ‘of poor quality.’
